Special Mention at “Premio Convivialità Urbana” in collaboration with philosopher Annalisa Arci

The project starts from the actual need of the municipality of Torre Annunziata (Naples) to renovate Ex Cinema Teatro Moderno and its overlooking plaza. The proposal focuses on the external area, which is nowadays a place for cars, not for people. The plaza has been divided into two parts: a lower plaza, and an upper plaza. The latter will be able to connect physically to the theatre entrance, and visually to the seaside - not visible before. We believe in different ways of transforming places and existing buildings beyond demolition. Infact, the existing theatre will be entirely restored, without contemporary languages on it, its beauty is already there. While new languages and contemporary interventions are needed in the overlooking plaza, which can re-activate the critical glance on the theatre, just changing its perspective on it. This upper plaza will be used as an extension of the theatre, but also for independent events, making the place alive 24 hours per day.
