Riccione (Italy) – Hospitality
The building is now abandoned. As a work of authorship, the objective goes beyond simple re-functionalization and is first and foremost of social re-appropriation. The architectural gesture here expresses its intention of care: a new roof. A roof that protects - the artistic artefact - which transforms the image - the contemporary building - which gives more light - youth. <br>Is it possible to cover a building and give it more light? The selected light is often more powerful and evocative of diffused light. It allows, like a window onto the landscape, to emphasize certain points notable, framing them and increasing their poetic charge. The composition of the solids and voids of the new roof it takes up the existing modules and is divided into three functional typologies: private terraces, skylights, voids that leave pass the air. The latter project onto the sand the shapes of the modules on which the former building was composed colony, creating an immaterial and dynamic appeal. This more perceptive and less corporeal approach, yes also applies to the choice of material for the new covering: glazed ceramic which, thanks to its surface multifaceted and shiny, it reflects the colors of what it "looks at": the sand, the sky, De Carlo's cement tiles. The artifact existing structure will be restored and preserved also in its spatial articulations. Only two operations that include: the replacement of some opaque ceiling modules with glass on the top floor; the construction of a new lantern volume, above the area originally dedicated to the supervisors. This, on the other hand, stands out now transparent as a volume for collective initiatives until meeting the new coverage and, in particular, the events terrace, designed as a socialization space that adds views without taking away the ground.
