Pnyx Vigentina, 2018
Milan, Italy – Cultural
The state of abandonment implies first renunciation and then indifference. The project of a public space for citizens can counteract this indifference, becoming an attractive pole free as much as possible from speculative logic. To achieve this, the community must feel protagonist as well as user. The project imagines the concrete skeleton becoming the civic centre of the Vigentino neighbourhood, where useful spaces can be freely used: a small library, an exhibition space, rooms for condominium assemblies, all brought together by a central “pnyx” for informal cheating, oral speeches, entertainment events, and more. Architecturally, these new spaces “fit” into the existing structure without sticking to it, thus maintaining their identity. Metaphorically, this makes the building not to have a real closed perimeter, but ever open to the city.
