Mumbai is one of the ever increasing dynamic “global cities” which are attracting people and resources, but also leading to dramatic consequences the quality of life of their citizens / workers. Tall buildings suffer from the same contradictions, spreading in Mumbai just for the possibility to optimize the land. At the opposite, this project tries to find and express the symbolic and cultural value of tallness in Indian culture. The chosen site is at the crossroad between three situations: Dharavi slum, Mithi river and Mahrashtra park, and a productive area under development. The new tower dialogues with this fragmented environment through a clear geometry and a strategic orientation, rising from the ground to protect from the frequent flood events occurring in the city. The programme of the tower is multiple but specific: the main space is dedicated to office for slum redevelopment - now relegated into undersized spaces - co-working, and cultural spaces for public events.
